Challenges and Opportunities in Times of Democratic Uncertainty: Cultural and Social Geographies of Emerging Publics and Vulnerabilities

Cultural landscapes, migration and identities, gendered and transgender politics, (dis) abilities, indigeneity, political ecologies, digital cartographies, literary geographies ...the aim of this panel is to engage with contributions on how our worlds are lived, experienced and represented. Human-environment dynamics in social and cultural geography help shed light on current political contemporary challenges, by emphasising the value of a spatial perspective to understanding social and cultural expressions in the history of inequalities of power.
This session welcomes contributions on the connections between identities and spaces, attending to the range of agencies implied, such as (human) bodies, animals, affections, feelings, objects, art, more - than-human and non-representational actants or mass media. Diverse epistemological and methodological approaches to the social and cultural problematisation of spaces and places will be also welcome. Particularly interested on reflections on how COVID19 has reshaped global cultural and social geography by exposing how deeply our physical spaces, social classes, and daily routines affect health and wellbeing.
