Governing Health and Social Protection: Organizations, Professions and Equity

This panel invites exploration into the governance of healthcare, long-term care, welfare, and social protection, emphasizing the roles of organizations, professions, and access to these essential services. We welcome papers that examine a range of topics, including the dynamics of public-private partnerships, the nuances of professional authority, workforce shortages, service integration, provider regulation, eligibility criteria, instances of non-take-up, and social or territorial inequalities. Additionally, we encourage contributions that assess how demographic changes, fiscal constraints, and evolving social risks influence the responsibilities and relationships among governments, providers, professionals, and users. The panel is particularly interested in studies focused on policy design, organizational change, service delivery, and regulatory frameworks. We appreciate comparative research across various welfare and administrative systems, especially those that offer perspectives from outside Europe and the Global South.
