Development covers a wide spectrum of governance, welfare and human security issues from public health to education to livelihoods to labour force participation to climate change. Questions relating to science and technology advancements could also fit this panel rubric.
*What is the gendered experience of marginality, exclusion and deprivation?
*How do changing–maybe regressing–gender politics affect the allocation of resources and priorities across the various dimensions of “development”?
*What has been the political impact of gender mainstreaming and gender transformative approaches to development at the community or national level?
These are a few examples of questions we hope to hear about. Research presented on this panel will bring together current scholarship–theoretical and empirical, quantitative and qualitative–that raise questions relating to gender politics in these realms. Single case deep-dives as well as comparative case studies or large-n comparisons are welcome under the rubric of this RC07-convened panel.
